BAGGY EYES

Thank you all, my blog sweethearts for your uplifting comments on my last post. A lot of ''gracias'' from me are in order. Lets all pretend like I haven't shown up on my blog and been AWOL for 10 days now. Let's whistle it all out, put our hands in our pockets and do the frisky walk. Yes, pretense is just fine, but only in this regard.

For the past one week, I have been losing a lot of sleep at night and I mean A LOT. Good sleep i tell ya. My beauty sleep. All gone with the wind. Why? You ask. Take a wild guess. No, it is not thoughts of a boyfriend. Nahhh, even that won't make me leave my eyes open for 6 hours. Nope. Feeling down? Nope. School? Finished that last year, been there, done that soooo.... Money? I think about making that but not to the point of consuming my very thoughts and consequently losing sleep. Okay, lets stop with all the guesses. It's becoming exasperating. Lemme just blurt it out instead of 'sweeping' around the bush.

Three words. Vicious prayer warriors!!! Yep, my neighbours. The hubby and his wife. Living right next to me. My bedroom window faces their house directly so you can only imagine how the ''loudspeakers'' blare in my ears each night. The shouting matches start around 12 a.m and gets louder for another 3 hours. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against people praying at night but not to the detriment of other people's God-granted sleep. Haba! And to think it's not a normal prayer ooo. It is always a prayer of their enemies falling down and dying. Habaaa. Praying for a fellow human to die.

Just last night, I decided to listen carefully to what they were saying. Ahh, I had to listen because I had no other choice. I had lost choice of sleeping so the only ''forced choice'' was for me to listen. So the wife had a shouting row (yeah that's what I call it coz that ain't praying) and she said ''Ohhh God, anybody in this world against my happiness, may they fall down and die. Anybody that says me and my family will not succeed, may the person have a stroke and die (Stroke????). Anyone in this country that sets a bad mind against me (Wow, you sure do have a lot of haters) Ohhhh Lord, may he or she lose direction (Ehnn, it makes sense small). Any one in this estate (At the mention of the word estate, my ears prickled) man or woman who wants to see my family fall, may that person die.''

Then I thought ''Hell no, Woman you just hit the wrong boat''. Why mention our estate? People have their own problems so why should they burden themselves with only ill-thoughts of your family. It doesn't end there. For added juice to prayer, she speaks in tongues.''Ohh-chickalacka-sererevastickalasha''. But really, what I'm hearing is ''Ohh-chickalacka-prakatatumba''. Hahahaha. What can I say? If I'm hearing such, I have to tune it down to humour. I'm not getting sleep. The least I could do is laugh a bit (in my mind anyway) else my parents think I have gone 'boinkers' laughing out loud. Sometimes, the man comes out of the house and shouts so fiercely and then the woman takes the spotlight by force like no one else shall outshine her voice.

Seriously, when all humour is lost, it gets annoying especially after a long, hard day. No, not at work. At home. Since I have got till July to serve and as it turns out I'm the only female at home (aside my mam), I have become the 21st century Cinderella without all the step-sisters so go figure. I love the work but I need my sleep, damn it. I prop up my pillows keeping them down on my head to drown out the voices but it doesn't work. I'm just an inch away from actually losing breath what with all the pressing down of pillows on my head. One week without sleep. End result----Baggy eyes. I got all this dark circles under my eyes and one would think I got beat down by some huge guy...just kidding...not that bad but to the point of looking sick and frail.

It's so bad I doze off on duty--doing laundry, you can spot me yawning and trying to steal 10 minutes of sleep. One time, I almost dozed off completely while cooking. Imagine falling asleep on a pot of hot soup. ''I for hear am that day''. I'm not the only one facing this dilemma. My parents and neighbours complain about it bitterly. I would have endured it if they were nice people (Pray on, pray on) but they are huge snobs. They are not friendly with anyone in the neighbourhood.

I love praying but does a shouting match bend the Almighty's ears in your direction faster? I think not. My baggy eyes remain--for now.  Looking at my clock, It's 11pm..*sighs*.. I better sleep now before the matches start. I got one hour. I better put it to good use.

  1. Chai, I really feel sorry for you, because its pretty annoying when you can't sleep because someone is making a racket. We all pray, but our prayer shouldn't disturb the other person.

Maybe you (all the neighbours) should meet with them and tell them...on a lighter note, it may make you'all the "NEXT" prayer point.

    Take heart dear..

    1. Ema, it's really really annoying. We are waiting out to see if it's just one of those phases that will end soon..... But, how do you tell someone their prayer-sessions are disturbing the neighbourhood? I guess if it was in a place like the US, all one gotta do is call 911 and the police reprimand them for disturbing the peace..but omo, not in naija...
What you said bout us in the prayer-point ish, that was hilarious..i definitely wouldnt want to wake up and hear ''our neighbours living right next to us, yes the one with the daughter....(and then string of prayers of falling and dying) lol..''..

  2. awww...alll those hours of precious sleep?
i love prayer.... but at the expense of your neighbor?

i wish they'd chilax a little bit. God will hear them even
if they pray in whispers heard only within the walls of their bedrooms...

hope u guys can find a way to get some sleep without having to become a subject of their prayer point...

    1. Yes, no one needs to shout that loud to get the message across to God....a whisper, a silent prayer can do it just fine...but nooo, my neighbours don't seem to think so...It's not just the shouting I have a problem with, it's the content of their prayers...it's only about wishing death on their enemies...*rolls eyes*....

I got some new headsets and I'm gonna use the music in my phone to lull me to sleep....lol....i know...strange...desperate times call for desperate measures...

  3. My darling, pele. I can imagine the baggy eyes. I'll almost be mental if anything/anyone comes between my sleep & I. I honestly don't get the shouting match too cos biko, it certainly doesn't mean the louder you shout, the faster God'll answer em prayers. There are a couple of churches around & theirs is every Friday. They try to drown each other but thankfully, they're not too close. Hopefully, dey'll stop d drama since lent is over *hugs*

  4. Come ON! How much more inconsiderate can people be?
I understand your dilemna cos i was in a not so different position a lil while back & was a not so interesting experience. Only difference, could survive without the 'beauty sleep'.(smiles)
Peeps like that don't mind raining fire when they're on the receiving end.
Lets hope something gives & they realise their 'inconsiderate ways'

  5. my dear, inconsiderate is a good way to put it....... I'm no fashion or beauty expert but uhmmm I do know everyone needs their beauty sleep....yes, including you...lol....to avoid those baggy eyes and pale skin you know...

  10. eyah! sorry.... I can imagine how annoying and frustrating it is for you. I wont be surprise if in trying to tell them to reduce the noise, they end up branding and calling you names!.

I wonder how some people understand Christianity.

Sorry for the lack of sleep. Everyone have their own appoarch to prayer, God hears even if on whispers. Sometiems people shout not so much for God to hear but for their prayer can reverbrate within and without, to hear the word resignate, some its a form of therapy - expending of the negative energy built from life challenges.

good you can see some humor in it, though I dare say perhaps you can ask gently that they keep it down?

    stay blessed.

    1. Yes, but if that's what it's; expending all the negative energy then from their shouts...it should be something serious... Had to find a little humor in it else my mind goes haywire.

Besides, the matches stopped a few days ago and so there's no need to talk to them anymore. I'm hoping this is the very last I shall hear of it while sleeping.

Thanks for stopping by and stay blessed too. :)

  13. i can imagine what you are going through
these people need to understand that God does not answer prayers by the amount of noise a person makes
maybe you should try blasting music from your room and see how they feel about it lol

    1. Exactly!!! Believe me, the thought of blasting music in my room crossed my mind a lot of times but then, I would be disturbing other innocent neighbours..Sooo...I had to wait till it all fazed out and indeed it did...Silence prevails and behold, my sleep is glorious...lol...

Thanks for following, commenting and liking my blog...Zooming off to follow you...i'm definitely sure i'll like yours too... :D

    2. Eyaaa, I sympathise! And how thoughtful of you to consider others even when those neighbours are being so religiously inconsiderate. Such people have taught me to pray that my own 'religiousity' will not drive people away from worshipping God fully.
      Sannu!

  17. Oh well, what can i say? Lots of people have lots of enemies so prayers for people to die is quite inevitable. However, the fact that they consistently rob you of sleep is quite unfair.

Anyway,i tagged you in a post,do visit my blog to know all about it.

  20. I once hurled stones at the zinc roof of this church that wouldnt let us sleep with their demon chasing prayers. I was too frustrated to care. The kind prayer they started hurling at the enemy disturbing them amused me to no end. I just kept muttering 'back to sender'. But thankfully theirs was for one day.

Pele about the lack of sleep. Hope things are much better now?
